What I would like to know is; Why screw around with the code for MBBS? Isn't and shouldn't everyone be using WG by now? I mean come on, be real, by now the era of the old time MBBS dialup bbs's and the need for multiple modems, and or a Galactibox should be over shouldn't it? I mean unless you're living in a 3rd world country. Unless I missed something in an earlier post, sheesh folks, come into the 21st century.
Which brings me to MY real question. If using an editor such as the Nightmare Redux editor for Major MUD is in direct violation of the MMUD License Agreement, and the punishment for doing so is nothing more than refusal of further version updates for MMUD, no more new Mods, and refusal of tech support for MMUD. So what's the big deal? I mean those pitiful punishments only work if you are actually a bona fide MajorMud owner. And even if you are a "real" owner and you edit your MMUD and get caught by the mighty Metropolis Online Entertainment, boo-hoo, you're now running an edited MMUD, why wait and depend on Metropolis to furnish you with anything in the first place. You've got an editor, that makes you God. Don't be shy, create your own new areas, add new quests, monsters, weapons, items, classes and races. The only limit should be your imagination. I DO NOT recommend doing this to an existing MMUD unless you do regular backups of your WCC files. And I would test out the new "whatever" to make sure it doesn't crash MMUD or the BBS.
In short, who really cares what Metropolis wants. Just because they bought the rights to MMUD, doesn't mean they know what to do with it, or should even try to add anything further to it. I don't understand why (Metro) doesn't release all MMUD owners from the "no modification to our software" clause in the license agreement, and do away with it period, of course with a warning and stipulation to the effect of "any modification to our software shall be at the purchasers own risk, and Metropolis shall not be held liable for any loss or damage end user modifications might cause". Open MMUD up to modification to whatever degree by the people that honestly love the game. Metropolis would be amazed at the variety of items, areas, and improvements to the game their end users would come up with. I mean it's going to happen, well probably not the disposal of the "no mod" clause. But freedom of expression within your own realm is. It IS already happening on edited and pirated bbs's all over the world. And yes, I'm sure even in those 3rd world countries where they still use MBBS, Galactiboxes, multi-modems, and good old dialup service...........
