Nostalgia BBS is currently testing out two DMA servers. The first one
features Tele-Arena, Swords and Sorcery, and Galactic Empire. The 2nd
is currently testing Trade Wars 2002 and Galactic Empire. The 2nd DMA
server has an established user base. So, you can play with or against
many other players (especially in GE). More games may come soon.

Q: What is a DMA server?
A: In this case, DMA stands for Distributed MajorBBS Architecture.
What it does is allows a Sysop to put many mods/games on one server,
for several reasons:
#1: To get over the 16mb DOS/MBBS memory limit - split up the mods
into several pcs and offer more to its visitors
#2: To run multiple versions of the same mod - example, run two
majormuds, two wilderlands, two whatever. Maybe an easy version and a
hard version, maybe a pvp version and non-pvp version.
#3: To offer those mods/games to other bbs systems, to allow players
from two or more bbs systems play with or against each other.
In this case, it's option #3.
Q: Isn't that the same as Inter-BBS gaming?
A: No, Inter-BBS is not real time. Inter-BBS uses several BBSes/
Servers to run, and then they send out an info packet once or twice a
day, to a main server, which sorts those data packets.
When connected to a DMA server, there is only one server that you play
the game on. The DMA client uses a modified version of RLogin out to
connect to the DMA server. When you and some one else is playing that
game, you see that other person in the game. You can chat with that
person in real-time. You can kill that person, or team up to kill
other enemies or other people, or just compete for the high score.
Q: I'm a Sysop and want to sign my BBS up to a DMA server. How can I?
A: You either have to be running a DOS MBBS/WG1/2 and have Major TCP/
IP registered to you, or have ICO and ICO DMA Client for dos, OR have
WG 3.xNT and have an ICO DMA Client registered. The registration
number fro the ICO DMA Client for DOS also works with the NT version.
While you may not have to have a static IP, it would make things a lot
easier.
Just sign up to our BBS and email the sysop and we'll send you some
contact info. It'd be great if we could bring in some big, old-skool
competition back to BBSes!
Q: Can I sign up to MajorMud on a DMA server?
A: We're currently working with another DMA server owner, to try to
setup MajorMud. No guarantees but we're trying.
Q: I own a DMA server and would like to set it up again. Would any one
join mine?
A: Many worldgroup sysops are running wg nt and don't have registered
ICO DMA Clients and probably wouldn't be willing to downgrade to DOS
and Major TCP/IP.
But there are still a few BBS systems out there that may own the dma
client or run Major TCP/IP in DOS that might be interested. All we
need is 3-5 bbses connected to make a huge, competitive BBS community.
We'd like to find someone who has mutants (v3.5+), crossroads of the
elements, farwest trivia, lords of cyberspace, infinity complex, maybe
even a good game of swords of chaos to connect to.
