So a friend of mine has been bugging me about restarting a mud board up. Well I got to missing it, and he even dug up some old stuff to get me all nostalgic and stuff.

So I found a torrent with it all built with a lot of games. I got it working minus major mud. When ever I load up with the module(majormud) I get "PLTILE:Out of Contiguous Selectors!(Phar Lap Code 0000)" Now it says to lower buffers I have lower them to the minimal, I have tried to load the module first. I scoured the net for info. Back in my sysop days I remember this error but can't get rid of it.

Anyone out there can help me?

Bear,

I assume you are using MBBS4EVER? It sounds like to me that you are attempting to start the BBS via BBS.BAT instead of BBS.PIF which sets up the correct comspec environment which has enough buffers so that MajorMUD will not run out of contiguous selectors.

Start MajorBBS via C:\BBSV6\BBS or C:\BBSV6\BBS.PIF but not C:\BBSV6\BBS.BAT

Here is what the MBBS4EVER docs say about it:

DO NOT START MAJORBBS BY RUNNING C:\BBSV6\BBS.BAT. It will initially start but when it loads MajorMUD you'll get a nice red box with an error that says "Out of contiguous selectors!". USE "C:\BBSV6\BBS"!

Yeah I was running bbs from the command line. But you are right it was still launching the bbs.bat file when I did "bbs" from the commandline. The pif file says it's an invalid file. Tried to rename the .bat file and it wasn't able to launch from the "bbs" file. Then trying bbs.pif from a commanline gives me a "NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction."

So I will hunt for a world group setup out there.

Weird. I'm not sure what went wrong with your install. You can compare it to this XP VM with a clean MBBS4EVER install if you want: http://bit.ly/1fiIDCC

If your goal is to run MajorMUD then you are much better off with WG 3.x and MajorMUD 1.11p. I think the last version of MajorMUD that runs on v6 is 1.1x which is pretty useless.

In that case this might be helpful: http://bit.ly/1glakO1

Thanks for the links. I will try WG instead. Yeah I'm just interested in mud. Like I said my friend has been bugging me to setup a board. It's been well over 10 years since I dealt with a bbs let alone trying to run it. But the MBBS screen brought back instant memories of times I spent staring at that GUI.

Just a little heads up. I ended up running WG and it's running fine. Thanks for the info.
