I am messing with my old MBBS stuff and am hoping to find someone who might remember something about configuring Digiboard hardware with the MBBS. I am trying to make this work with MBBS v5.31. (Because there are a couple of modules that were never updated to work with v6.25)

I have the MBBS running on an old 486. :) It works fine and compiles just as well today as it did 20 years ago. I can login to the MBBS console of course, and I am able to login via serial over a null modem connection. I am also able to telnet in by way of a Digi PortServer.

The MBBS v5.31 did not have any kind of TCP/IP capabilities. The TCP/IP stuff did not come around until MBBS v6.xx, and it was never backported to v5.31.

The Digi PortServer I have is an external piece of stand alone hardware. It has firmware built-in that takes an incoming telnet TCP/IP connection and routes it out through a serial port. So as far as the MBBS is concerned, the telnet connection is actually a "phone call".

This is great, but I don't want to be limited to 1 serial connection.

I got a Digi AccelePort 8em ISA adapter card on eBay. (yes ISA - that's a typo). Everything was brand new and still sealed in the original box and the card seems to work just fine. All of the "driver" software and diagnosis/testing software that comes with it seems to suggest that the card is working as intended.

However, I cannot figure out why the MBBS isn't responding to incoming "phone calls".

I know this post is a total long shot, but I'm hoping to find someone who knows something about this stuff who might have some troubleshooting ideas.

all I remember is mbbs would only see a dumb modem board. and the addresses of the ports had to be 400k off of each other in hex
works with like a nocaboard and some others.

Do you happen to know any specific model numbers? I think Digiboard is the way to go because they are still making stuff. I've heard of Bocoboard, but a quick search would seem to suggest they are long gone.

I did a search for digiboard non-intelligent and found a couple of links.

http://www.digiboard-products.com/digicb.html

and

http://www.digiboard-products.com/digipcx.html

If I can identify a specific model, I can probably find it on eBay for cheap. I got the Digi AccelePort 8em for only a few dollars, but it's an "intelligent" board.

So among these digi serial boards I linked above, is there a way to know if they will work, and if the addresses are separated by 400k?

Back in the day I had the luxury of using a Galactibox so I didn't have to worry about any of the technical details. It just worked.

not really. I always used a bocaboard/16
someone just told me it has to be a non-intelligent board and the port/modem addresses have to be 400 hex apart from each other.

also, you might want to read the msg files in a text editor.
I remember they used to give notes and switch settings
